No respect: West Florida picked 8th in first UAC Preseason Poll

The Argos got no love from its new home, the United Athletic Conference, in its initial vote in the 2026 pre-season football poll.

Only one coach, voted the Argos to finish above eighth place in the eight-team league. With 33 votes, the newly added Argos placed eighth in the vote held Tuesday morning in Arlington, Texas.

The UAC’s media kickoff event will be Wednesday from the Texas Rangers’ conference area in Arlington. West Florida Head Coach Kaleb Nobles and two players, tight end Jake Robinette and defensive player Eli Webb are in Texas for the event.

Sharing the first place vote in the UAC poll for 2026 were Texas schools, Abilene Christian and Tarleton State. Austin Peay out of Kentucky was third followed by Eastern Kentucky University. Former Gulf South Conference schools Central Arkansas, West Georgia, North Alabama and West Florida rounded the last four spots.

The Argos, apparently got no respect from its strong recent history in the GSC. In its first nine seasons as a football program, the Argos compiled an impressive record of 81-30. They won the Division II National Championship in 2019. They made the NCAA Division II playoffs in six of its nine seasons, including 2025 when they went 10-2 and won the GSC.
